The Liberty, our first project gathers momentum!

Community kitchen and village hall

We have been working closely with Hackney Council for well over a year to bring the disused toilet block on Clapton Common back into use as a community resource. It will be a community kitchen, café and a village hall, offering the widest possible access hosting local activities.

Planning permission has been granted

We are close to signing our lease with Hackney

Drainage surveys have been done

Structural survey has been done

Initial funding is in place

Dave Cook, architect, appointed and specifications done

Construction tenders received and being reviewed

What happens next – March

We confirm our relationship with our food champion

We propose a list of activities that will be scheduled when The Liberty is fully operational to support likely additional funding for the capital costs

Contractor appointed subject to funding being confirmed

April onwards

Confirmation of funding

We sign our lease with Hackney

Building work starts lasting around six months

Launch of the Liberty Lunches

Additional fundraising begins
